When the Rolex Explorer II reference 16570 was introduced in 1989 it brought with it an updated calibre 3185 self-winding movement with an improved balance bridge for a greater resistance to shocks. Designed to accompany the wearer on the most extreme adventures, the Explorer II comes built with an extremely durable 40mm Oyster case with a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, a screw-down case back, and a waterproof screw-down crown. These features create an airtight seal, protecting the movement within for a highly reliable reading. The case is paired with an equally durable Oyster bracelet made of brushed stainless steel, flat links, and a secure Oysterlock clasp. This sports watch is designed for optimal use while exploring dark environments and includes a 24-hour bezel and a red GMT hand to help the wearer distinguish between day and night hours. Additionally, the black dial is set with contrasting luminous hour markers that are easy to read in virtually any environment.
